A nice walk

Yesterday when I got home Nathan wanted to take a walk down our road and "mow."

Black Dog came with us.

Nathan was very curious and couldn't keep from taking a look at the machine we could hear but not to see across the way in Judy's yard.

It turned out to be a weed eater. Nathan was thrilled.

The bounty of the land

Our pumpkin harvest is going great guns! Brian is hoping to have enough that he can give one to each student in Nathan's class.

Nathan's first "real tractor "

Nathan had expressed a lot of reluctance about starting school, to the point we got very concerned. But Nathan went to school without tears the first four days, so Brian bought him a motorized tractor. (While Nathan didn't know it, Brian had been trying to come up with a reason to get the tractor for him, so the timing worked out well.) I seriously have never seen our child be more excited than when he got to ride it the first time. He has used the word "awesome" several times. And he loves that he can use it to do real work like helping Brian bring in the pumpkin harvest.

Our little fish

Nathan took swimming lessons this summer and his confidence in the water took a huge jump! This evening we went to the Christian Church picnic and pool party. Nathan was all over the pool.

First day of school

After much build-up, the big day finally arrived last Wednesday and Nathan had his first day of school. I cried but Nathan just smiled and said "bye Mom" when I hugged him and left him in the MES gym. But he had a great day and everything went well the rest of the week.

Back-to-school time

We went to back-to-school night this evening. Nathan put away all his supplies and got to see his teacher, Mrs. Harlan, again. He left in good spirits and no worries.

Not knowing how hard it will be for Nathan when I drop him off tomorrow morning, Brian has offered a bribe if he doesn't get upset. Tonight I asked Brian what he will give me if I don't get upset.

Busy Weekend

This was the final weekend before school starts on Wednesday for Nathan and Thursday for Burlington students. On Friday the whole family went to see my Grandpa Jack and Grandma Ruth in Ottawa and Grandma Jo in Shawnee. On the way back we stopped and shopped for shoes and school supplies for Nathan.

On Saturday we made an impromptu trip to Gardner. Brian's cousin from Florida was visiting. For the very first time we took advantage of the additional seating in the Sienna and invited Carol and Jim to go with us. Nathan loved that!

At the end of the evening, Jordan and Leslie took us out on the lake. It was a perfect night.
