When Brian was gone one evening, I went to look for something on our DVR to watch and the show that was listed right under "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" caught my eye. I had to stop and ponder if Brian was getting tired of the current female in the house and was looking to replace her. :)

It must be Santa
Nathan met Santa for the first time ever at the Sauder Center in Madison! We thought we'd have to wait awhile for our turn, but Nathan was able to walk right up to him and he was more than happy to sit on Santa's lap and tell him what he wants for Christmas (which happens to be a blue New Holland tractor and we have reliable sources that tell us that he will be getting one of them in the near future).
Outside time
Nathan's favorite thing to do is still play outside. When I got home the other evening, he insisted on going out, even though it was chilly. Brian has hauled in some dirt and Nathan loves to use his rake, shovel, and hoe to move it around.
O Christmas Tree
Brian went out and cut down a tree for us to decorate. Nathan had so much fun decorating it! And he is getting really excited about the presents that are gradually showing up under the tree.

Oh deer...
Last Sunday Nathan and I went up to Emporia around 4pm. We left Empora at dusk and on the way home I ran right into a buck. Thankfully neither Nathan or I were hurt. And, thankfully, Brian was able to come pick us up very quickly. But, we are now one week past the accident and we are still waiting to get approval for repairs from the insurance company.
A Great Weekend
We have had a wonderful weekend. Saturday morning was spent cleaning the house. And then, after Nathan's nap, he and I joined up with Leslie, Juneau, and Grandma Hind at the Madison Fall Festival where we went trick-or-treating.
Here is Nathan checking out his loot:
And then the day ended with us going out and watching Brian combine at the Home Place. Nathan then got to go on a combine ride.
This morning we put up three of the pumpkins that Brian grew in our garden. And, since I had a whole bag of Jonathan apples, I decided to make a batch of apple butter. Needless to say the kitchen smells awesome right now!

Where is the a**hole?
This is just a funny story I wanted to share. Beware, it does contain a "bad word."
Brian accidentally said the word "asshole" today while Nathan was in the truck with him. Nathan immediately started saying the word "asshole" and asking "Where is the asshole?" When Brian and Nathan got out of the truck to fix fence, Nathan scanned the horizon and then said "I still don't see the asshole Daddy."

Our Park
Nathan loves going to the park. However, Madison doesn't have one that is designed for younger kids. And both Brian and I grew up with swing sets in our yard, so we decided to get one for Nathan. Nathan calls it "the park." Needless to say, Nathan is thrilled to have it.
Weed Eating
Nathan has a mower and loves pretending to mow. He has also started to enjoy weed eating when Brian is weed eating. Right now he is using his imagination and using a big stick as his "weed eater." But he has already asked if he can get a real one.
Kansas State Fair
Last Saturday we took a very spontaneous trip to the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. We saw draft horses, sheep shearing, part of the Grand March, and many animals. Nathan's favorite part was when we toured the farm equipment.
The Wichita tv station that we watch had a booth at the fair. One of the two main weathermen, Ross Janssen, was there. Brian decided to take the opportunity to go up and mention to Ross how he is constantly standing in front of Greenwood county when he gives the weather reports. When I asked Brian what his response was, Brian said "Ross says that I am not the first person to tell him that."

Pictures
I hate to admit this, but as Nathan has gotten older, I have been taking fewer and fewer pictures of him, which is why I don't update the blog as much as I use to. But here are a few from the month of August.
Nathan was playing peek-a-boo one day:
Nathan is on a fire fighter kick right now.

Privacy
One of the "big words" we use around our house is "privacy." Nathan has picked up on it. Here is a conversation Nathan and I had while I was in the kitchen earlier this evening:
Nathan: "Need privacy Momma. Need privacy."
Me: "Oh! You need to go potty??"
Nathan: "No need privacy." And he walked into another room and closed the door.
A little while later he came back out to the kitchen.
Nathan: "Where is privacy??"

Chalk Boy
Yesterday Nathan continually asked to go outside and play with the chalk. So we finally got outside toward evening. He actually didn't play with the chalk all that long before he started running around. But the chalk left its mark.
Nebraska Take Two
We repeated last year's July 4th road trip by going up to Lincoln again and seeing Mike, Melinda, Olivia, and Jillian. We had a wonderful time watching the fireworks and them spending most of the next day visiting.
Nathan was initially very unsure about the fireworks. But he eventually warmed up to them and started chasing after the parachute that popped out of one of them.
On Sunday we all traveled to the world famous Omaha zoo. While it was quite warm, a good time was still had by all.

New Pets
Brian had been talking about getting 2-3 kittens when we returned from our trip to Nebraska over the July 4th weekend. Lo and behold, two kittens show up at our house the night before we leave. Nathan has been ecstatic about having them!
San Diego Take Two
How is it already the middle of July??? The summer has just flown by. And Megan reminded me the other day that I had not updated our blog in a long time. So here are some snapshots of our summer:
In June Nathan and I flew to San Diego. Nathan was a perfect flier!
We had great fun spending time with Megan, John, Lydia, and Jack!
And we were able to be there for Lydia's 3rd birthday party!
Nathan and Lydia have both expressed that they want to see each other again real soon!

Tractors, Combines, and Helicopters
Nathan has continued to play with his New Holland tractor, as well as the new Case IH combine he got on Friday. But, after watching the end of a movie with us in which he saw a helicopter, he insisted that I get out the Coast Guard helicopter that his Uncle John had given him (which I had put up since he'd already broken off two of the propellers). Since then, he has been combining the fields and flying the helicopter overhead.
Update
So, I think God got really tired of our moaning and groaning about the weather and decided it was time to give us a break. So, starting Friday afternoon and going on into Saturday evening, we were blessed with wonderful rain showers! We got just under 3 inches at our house. While we could certainly use more since we have taken such a hit with the drought, this has been a wonderful start.
